Our Charity
Running for Resilience (R4R) is a Charity aimed at saving one life from suicide, as many times as possible, because no one is destined for suicide.
Our Strategy
Our goal is to make Canberra suicide-free by 2033 by building events centred on community & exercise, guiding people toward professional support when needed, and sharing stories to help people find a way forward.
For a suicide-free Canberra to exist, we need people to believe it’s possible, to look after themselves and each other, and for people to be aware of the help available, when they need it.
Our Principles
Everything we do is guided by a set of four principles:
Effort: Everything we do must be simple and sustainable
Community-led: Everything we do must be guided by our community
Self-Care: Nothing we do should come at the cost of self-care
Empathy: Everything we do must always consider the perspective of ‘one life’
Our Board
Is responsible for establishing the strategy for a suicide-free Canberra, managing risk & compliance, and holding our committees to account.
Executive Members: Ben Alexander (S), Danny Shiu (T) Jess Piel (VC), Melissa Oloyed (VC), Matthew Breen (C)
Members: Sam Schumacher, Lili Mooney, Glen Collins, Sunday Oloyede, Deana Cuming, Tim Fulton, Ellie Tonkin
The board meets formally 6 times per year, including an Annual General Meeting and Strategy Day
Our Committees
are responsible for owning a specific part of the organisation’s system, then reporting risks, learnings, and recommendations to the board so informed decisions can be made.
Safety Committee: tasked with managing, responding to, and preparing for risks concerning R4R and its stakeholders
Volunteer Committee: tasked the management of volunteers in support of the Safety committee, and the management of volunteer engagement
Partnerships Committee: tasked with expansion of events and relationships with other communities and organisations.
Communications Committee: tasked with communicating key messages to our Volunteers, Partners, and Community
Each Committee has a designated lead and meets between 2-6 times per year (depending on the committee). Each committee will work from an internal system and updates will be provided fortnightly, where relevant
Our Volunteers
Are the backbone of R4R, helping create safe, welcoming events and supporting our community through consistent presence, clear roles, and calm leadership when needed.
Our Partners
Help us extend our reach and impact by contributing venues, resources, expertise, and support that strengthen our events, our safety systems, and the pathways to professional help when it matters most.
Our Community
Is the reason R4R exists. They are a group of people choosing connection, movement, and care for one another, proving week by week that a suicide-free Canberra is possible.
