Frequently Asked Questions

  • Running for Resilience (R4R) is not only one of Canberra’s largest run/walk clubs, we are also a registered charity. Our goal is to save one life from suicide as many times as possible. Our mission to help make the ACT suicide free by 2033.

We do this by hosting free weekly events, community building activities, creating safe spaces for people to connect and partnering with organisations such as the Medicare Mental Health Centre, Men’s Link and Lifeline.

  • Running for Resilience is rapid growing! So to keep up to date with our weekly events visit our weekly events page.

  • Yes, our weekly events are completely free! No sign-up required. Just show up.

  • Contrary to our name, you don’t have to run. Both walkers and runners of any fitness level are welcome. Most events will have approximately 20% walkers. So you’ll likely not be walking by yourself.

  • We have no set distance or pace. We encourage you to aim for approximately 20 - 30 minutes of self-paced exercise before meeting back at the starting point for a drink and chat.

  • We’re still on!

If the weather is particularly bad, we’ll let you know via social media and our WhatsApp group that the event has been cancelled. But a bit of rain is okay.

If there is lightning or hail we will cancel our event.

  • We welcome dogs to our R4R events. If you are going to be participating with a dog you must ensure it is under your full control on a short lead at all times. Your dog must remain with you and cannot be left alone along the course or at the start line.

  • In addition to our weekly events, we also host special events such as:

    • Yoga for Resilience (first Friday of every month)

    • Strolling for Resilience (every week)

    • Racquet for Resilience

    • City2Surf Road Trip

    • Gala Night

These events can be viewed on our special events page.

  • You’re not alone in feeling that way and we want to make sure that you have the best experience possible.

Feel free to reach out to us so our volunteers can keep an eye out for you or say hello to one of our friendly volunteers.

  • We acknowledge that we are not experts.

Some of our volunteers have completed mental health first aid training and might be able to point you in the right direction.

However, If you need advice or mental health help, we are a partner of the Medicare Mental Health Centre who can provide you with appropriate support. If you are in immediate danger please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or emergency services on 000.
